Teryn Thomas

CEO/Founder

Prior to EdLight, Teryn served as a Chief Schools Officer and Chief of Teaching and Learning across multiple districts including Newark, Camden, Denver, and Philadelphia. Educated at University of Pennsylvania, Teryn focused her research on interrogating systems of oppression with the goal of the emancipation of all students to ensure their humanity regardless of ability, gender, and race. She is married to a fellow educator, and together they have four kids and a dog. On weekends, they are often hiking around South Jersey’s best trails.

Michel Meneses

Senior Director of Learning Engineering

Michel joined EdLight in January 2024 as a Senior ML Consultant, leading the delivery of AI models. In May 2024, Michel was promoted to Senior Director of Learning Engineering, contributing to EdLight’s strategy to make high-quality math education accessible to all students. With over a decade of experience in deep learning R&D, Michel excels in designing ML systems and AI products while publishing in prestigious venues. Outside of work, Michel enjoys working out, playing musical instruments, reading, and exploring nature in Brazil.

Selena Castro

Senior Director of Partnerships

As EdLight’s Senior Director of Partnerships, Selena brings over half a decade of expertise in equity-centered recruitment, partnerships and strategy in the education and technology sectors. Racial justice is tied to any initiative that she leads, pursues, or supports. Selena’s spark comes from fighting for educational equity for Black and Brown children. Selena began her career as a 6th grade science teacher in Camden, NJ and shifted into full-cycle recruitment and talent acquisition leadership for the likes of The School District of Philadelphia and Freire Schools. Selena has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Williams College. You can usually find Selena playing with her mini German Shepherd Taz, taking a pilates class, or discovering a new restaurant in Houston, TX!

Lindsay Looft

Senior Director of Teaching and Learning

Lindsay joined EdLight as Director of Special Projects in July 2023. She has spent the last 15 years in education as a teacher, school leader, and instructional coach in New York City and Washington, DC, where she lives now. She is passionate about making math engaging and accessible for all learners and promoting equity in education. Lindsay studied biology and French at the University of Georgia and holds a master’s degree in education from Lehman College. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring DC with her husband and two children.
